Star India will not be charging any subscription fee from DTH and cable TV operators for its newly launched HD sports channels Star Sports Select HD1 and HD2, as part of its promotional offer until 31 July 2017.
Star Sports Select HD 1 and HD2, which were launched on 10 August, are priced at Rs 35 each on reference interconnection offer (RIO).
Star’s Telugu HD GEC Maa HD is also part of the promotional offer.
Star’s HD bouquet, which comprises 21 channels, is priced at Rs 380.67 on RIO basis. However, the bouquet rate will be Rs 317.33 per subscriber per month until 31 July 2017 after factoring in the promotional offer.
The promotional offer will ensure that the distribution platform operators (DPOs) do not have to charge additional subscription fee from their HD customers for the new channels.
Based on Star’s new RIO, distribution platforms can avail discounts on the existing RIO bouquets depending on their subscriber base as well as the LCN and penetration they provide to the company’s HD channels.
Star Sports HD1 and HD2 have been created by transferring all non-cricket international sports content owned by the broadcaster from Star Sports 4 and Star Sports HD4.
The two channels will be exclusive home of the Premier League, Bundesliga, Grand Slam Tennis and Formula 1. International sports will be available on Star Sports and their mirror HD channels until 31 October, following which Star Sports HD channels will become the exclusive viewing destination for these events.
Non-HD subscribers will need to take an HD connection to access these events from 1 November.
The broadcaster plans to offer a viewing experience that ensures more matches, increased behind-the-scenes access and in-depth analysis as part of its programming strategy for the HD channels.
Star will also increase the television coverage for the Premier League to over 270 matches. Star’s video-on-demand (VoD) service Hotstar recently launched a premium subscription service for the English Premier League (EPL) for a monthly fee of Rs 199.
The service is available for free on a one-month trial basis.
