MUMBAI: After announcing the launch of the ‘Weekend Binge’, English general entertainment channel Star World has put together the line-up for a year.

Presented by Amazon India, the ‘Weekend Binge’ will give viewers a chance to watch complete new seasons of a series at one go. The plan is to break the norm of showing just reruns over weekends.

The broadcaster hopes this will help combat online piracy where viewers want to watch most, if not all, the episodes of a show at one go instead of waiting for a week or even for a day for the next episode of a recent show. There will be over 1,200 hours of shows. The channel will air more than 30 shows with 45 new seasons across the year.

All the shows have finished airing on Star World Premiere, which airs shows day and date with the US. The ‘Weekend Binge’ will kick-start with the season premiere of ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ on 25 April.

The channel will air all 15 episodes of the new season from noon onwards on 25 and 26 April. In subsequent weekends, viewers will be treated to more shows like the fourth season of ‘Homeland’.

Over 50 per cent of the year’s content line-up will be series premieres on the ‘Weekend Binge’, including shows like ‘Empire’, ‘Blackish’, ‘Fresh Of The Boat’, and ‘The Bridge’.

The channel will also air series like ‘Two and a Half Men’, ‘Modern Family’, ‘New Girl’, and ‘Two Broke Girls’.

A Star spokesperson said, “Our strong consumer understanding with regard to viewers’ consumption habits and lifestyle has led to the innovation of ‘Star World Weekend Binge’, which is aimed at creating a destination especially for those viewers who can’t wait to watch what happens next and want to consume the complete story at one go.”

To mark the launch of the weekend property, Star World has put together a marketing programme to engage and connect with audiences across its target markets. The central character of this campaign is a mascot called ‘Binge Baba’.

Starting 25 April, the Weekend Binge will air every Saturday and Sunday from 12 pm onwards on Star World and Star World HD! The shows lined up for the current quarter include ‘How to Get Away with Murder’, ‘Homeland Season 4′, ‘Two and a Half Men’, ‘New Girl’, ‘Two Broke Girls’, ‘Fresh of the Boat’, ‘The Bridge Seasons 1, 2′, ‘Agents of Shield Season 2′, ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Agent Carter’.
