Tata Play is removing premium Hindi channels from its platform whereas their so called competitor dth are adding premium Hindi channels.

That's shows the downward trend of the premium dth platform..Tata Play . 😔 😔

DD free dish have 40 million user while Tatasky has 22 million subscribers, being number one in paid segment Tatasky may be asking very high carriage fees from these FTA channels to be in their platform.I think slowly with this type of boycott by channels Tatasky will realise that many Hindi region channels are least bothered regarding paid DTH platform, with this automatically Tatasky or D2h will start reducing carriage fee for FTA Hindi region channels,we need to just wait and watch how this will unfold in future as result of FTA channels boycott of paid platform

That will be a fantastic development, especially with regard to the numerous low quality Hindi news channels. Pay DTH subscribers should be paying only for the channels they want and deserve. Any unnecessary channels, even if they are free, should not be present on pay DTH platforms just for the sake of carriage fee.

@JollyLNB bro i completely disagree with u on this point. Firstly be it FTA national or regional news channels or FTA channels from any other genres, each channel has an audience and an operator has to cater to vast audience demographic. Yes, there r some FTA channels which might not have much good content or be viewed by sizeable number of people but then if a broadcaster has valid licence to run a channel , has its own content strategy thus it decides where to be available or not.

As i have stated earlier, carriage fee / ads r important source of revenue for operators apart from regular subscription revenue [NCF/ Broadcaster share (20%) of bouquet / channel price) . It helps then immensely in investing on various things to provide better services / experience to its customers / viewers.

One can complaint if an operator is just adding FTA channels and not adding other popular/ important channels but if they r adding both type of channels and providing overall good service then we should not be irritated with FTA channels. If one does not like a channel then just do not watch it, infant u even have option to drop FTA Complimentary bouquet from ur account which again means operators r not forcing u to watch these channels.

Tata Play needs to alter its policy/ strategy to adapt to new media / dth industry regulations / landscape. Not only it has to lower carriage fee but also be more receptive to adding more carriage fee channels as well as add more home channels to air teleshopping ads. It needs to shed its premium outlook which it still tries to maintain. Gone r the days when niche audience opted for Tata Sky (Play) for watching premium content, most of this audience is gradually shifting to OTT and lower as well as mid pyramid/segment of subscribers r shifting towards DD Free Dish. Tata Play needs to work on a policy to reduce this churn by providing content at lower price and offer attractive / affordable combo TV+OTT packs to regular and niche subscribers respectively, to do this they would need alternate source of revenue so that losses arising out of it can b absorbed and healthy profits/revenue margin can b maintained.
