Tata Sky partners with Hungama.com to launch ‘Music+’

[size=medium]New Delhi: DTH operator Tata Sky has partnered with the digital entertainment company Hungama.com to launch a new music service ‘Music+’ that will feature music videos, concerts, artiste interviews, on-ground music events and festivals across the country.[/size]

[size=medium]The company will not charge the consumer for the new service for the first five days but it will be subsequently priced at Rs3 per day. The service will offer music in different genre and will be co-curated by music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Currently, Tata Sky has 16 interactive services on its platform.[/size]

[size=medium]“We have launched several interactive services. While there are a lot of popular music channels on television today, we felt there is a need for a destination that showcases unique genres,” said Pallavi Puri, chief commercial officer at Tata Sky. For the music videos, the company has announced a line-up of artistes including Pankaj Udhas, Jagjit Singh, Elvis, Abba, Salim-Suleiman among others.[/size]

[size=medium]Tata Sky has already been operating another music service ‘Tata Sky Active Music’, which is largely audio and offers Bollywood and regional music. “We are taking the service to the next level where we have brought in different genres divided in four segments—Jazz, Indie Rootz, Mehfil and International to launch the new video service. We will aggregate this content from various music labels and artistes,” said Siddhartha Roy, chief executive at Hungama.com, an entertainment portal owned by Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt. [size=medium]Earlier on 4 October, Tata Sky had launched a free movie service to showcase movies from the recent editions of Mumbai Film Festival. The company claims over 15 million connections and a presence in 1.5 lakh towns.[/size]
[size=medium]According to a report ‘Asia Pacific Pay-TV and Broadband Markets 2016’ by global media research and consulting firm Media Partners Asia (MPA), India’s pay-television industry is expected to touch $14.5 billion in revenue by 2021, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.2%. Currently, the industry is valued at $ 9.4 billion.[/size]
