Digital Addressable cable TV subscribers who have failed to turn in their consumer application forms (CAFs) on or before June 25, are likely to experience a blackout as TRAI will be cutting of their respective services. It has been revealed that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India can disconnect services of as many as 9 million users.
Also, customers who are likely to face connection discontinuation are based in Mumbai and Delhi. The digitization drive has currently been introduced only in four regions – these two cities and Chennai and Kolkata. Once the regulatory body receives information from these metros, it will turn its attention towards the rest of the country.
As per the rules laid down by the government organization, users across India are required to fill out forms and submit them to their respective Multi System Operators. The MSOs will in turn give the data to the organization for reviewing purposes and to introduce digitized connections. In addition to personal details of customers, TRAI seeks some additional information which will help simplify the task at hand. Thus, it has appealed to people that they should let the body know about their preferences with respect to content and services available for viewing on their television.
The regulatory board had set the deadline on June 7 and a few days ago, it had issued a press note to remind MSOs that they will not be given any more extensions and that the timeline is final. So far the cable operators were focusing on installing digital set top boxes and apparently it is not possible for them to collect so much data within a short span of time, indicates a post on Financial Express. Regardless of these issues, TRAI has stressed on the fact that it will not be possible to carry out the drive until it collects all the data.
Customers who have lost their cable connections due to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s regulations, can expect them to be restored as soon as they submit their forms.
