The union government will address the transponder requirements of the direct to home (DTH) operators over the next 2-3 years through the upcoming planned satellites, minister of state in the ministry of personnel, personal grievances & pensions and in the prime minister’s office Dr. Jitendra Singh has said in the Lok Sabha.
He also said that there 289 transponders on the INSAT/GSAT satellites in various frequency bands like C, extended-C, Ku, and S. DTH operators provide service through Ku band transponders.
“DTH requirements are expected to be addressed through upcoming planned satellites over a period of next 2-3 years,” Singh said in response to a question.
He further added, “On indigenous commercial communication INSAT/GSAT satellites, there are about 289 transponders, in various frequency bands like C, extended-C, Ku, S etc. and about 4 Gbps high-throughput satellite (HTS) capacity.”
Singh also informed that the government has fulfilled all demands for transponders till December 2018 barring DTH’s requirement.
