After CNN, TV18 Broadcast has extended its brand licensing agreement with CNBC Asia to continue using the CNBC brand and content for the business news genre until 31 March 2028.
The deal was renewed during the third quarter of the fiscal year.

Interestingly, the license has been renewed even as there was ample time for the current deal to expire, which is 31 March 2018.

This unlike the CNN deal wherein TV18 first said it would not renew the licensing deal only to stitch a long-term deal with the American news brand. Following the renewal of the deal, TV18’s English news channel CNN-IBN was rebranded CNN News18.

“During the quarter, TV18 strengthened its relationship with CNBC and extended the licensing arrangement with CNBC Asia to use the CNBC brand and content until 31 March 2028 for the business news genre,” TV18 said.

The renewal of deal comes at a time when Raghav Bahl, the founder of TV18 and during whose reign the licensing deals were signed, is gearing up to launch an English business news channel in partnership with Bloomberg called Bloomberg Quint.

TV18 owns and operates four business news channels under the CNBC brand. These include CNBC TV18, CNBC Awaaz, CNBC Bajar, and CNBC TV18 Prime HD.

While latest data is not available, TV18 had paid Rs 20.31 crore (Rs 203.1 million) in royalty for using brands like CNN and CNBC for the financial year ended 31 March 2014.
