TV Today Network has moved its distribution mandate from Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) to the latter’s rival Star India. From 1 November, Star India will be the exclusive distribution agent of TV Today Network channels comprising India Today TV, Aaj Tak, and Tez.
The agreement with TV Today will allow Star to add news channels to its distribution bouquet. The strict foreign ownership rules prevent Star from having a direct presence in the news broadcasting space.
“We wish to inform you that effective November 1, 2018 (“Effective date”), we have appointed Star as our agent/distributor for distributing at standard definition television channels namely India Today Television, Tez, Aaj Tak and also the to be launch high definition television channel namely Aaj Tak HD (TVTN Channels) to Cable, Headend in the Sky (HITS), direct to home (DTH) and Internet protocol television (IPTV) distribution platforms in India,” TVTN said in a public notice.
