Will Good Friday affect Dum Maaro Dum opening?

Producer Ramesh Sippy is all set to release Dum Maaro Dum this Friday (April 22) amidst controversies. The film might enjoy monopoly at the box office this weekend, as Zokkomon and Me Mamu & 7 are lesser known films. But unfortunately, its release date falls on Good Friday. So, doubt arises if it will make a good opening.

Dum Maaro Dum, which is made with a budget of Rs.20 crore, is releasing in 20 countries at 350 international locations and at 1,000 theatres throughout India. But sadly, Good Friday could affect its box office collection on the opening day, as it is a day of penance, mourning and fasting for the Christians because Jesus Christ died on this day. So, it is very unlikely that Christians in India and abroad alike will watch the film this Friday. This will certainly affect its opening especially abroad, where Christian population is more.

However, the film could rake in revenue on Easter Sunday (April 24), as people may flood to the theatres in festive mood in spite of the on-going IPL tournament. May be the makers of the film have taken calculated risk, keeping in mind the festive weekend and no big film to compete it.

Dum Maaro Dum is a thriller that revolves around drugs, s#x and violence in Goa. It has three stories revolving around lead actors Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Prateik Babbar, Aditya Pancholi and Rana Daggubati. It was also in the news after a petition was filed before the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court for showing Goa in a bad light, but the court has cleared its release.

Now, the big question is – will Dum Maaro Dum make a good opening? We will come to know its fate this Friday!
