ZEE TV will be sprucing up its weekend programming with the launch of ‘Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma’.
The finite series captures the journey of Zeenat, a mother of two, deserted by her husband during one of the darkest phases of Indian history – the Partition – and her rise to a position of power by creating an identity for herself solely on the steam of her resilient spirit.
At a time when women were preyed upon mercilessly on the grounds of the faith they belonged to, had no freedom to live or a sense of basic security, Zeenat had two options. 1 – To brace herself and endure. 2. To ignite and revolt. Clearly, she chose the latter option and emerged as a power to reckon with for decades to follow. In standing up to the adversities strewn in her path and attaining a formidable stature in a world dominated by intimidating men, Zeenat is a role model for today’s women.
Produced by Salt Media LLP, the show marks the television debut of film actor Urvashi Sharma (Raina Joshi) essaying the author-backed title role. Seen for the very first time in a de-glam avatar, the actor has gone to great lengths to prepare for the role.
She says, “It’s an absolute privilege to be cast as Amma. I feel blessed to have landed such a strong role for my debut on television and would like to thank Zee TV, Farhn P Zamma and Asif Shaik for the opportunity. Zeenat is a powerful character and her journey from being a wife and mother to becoming a beacon of hope for others is a great human interest story. The narrative spans across five decades and will see me in distinct life stages of the character, allowing me to present different aspects of her personality. Playing the part convincingly calls for an in-depth study of her background, the circumstances she dealt with and her own intrinsic personality traits that propelled her to power. The creative team and I have done a lot of research to bring authenticity and relevance to every scene.”
The show is being shot at Ramoji Film City, Hyderbabad on a film camera in a film format to give the show the canvas and scale of a Hindi film.
‘Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma’ will air weekends from Saturday 25th June at 22:30 (India & UK).
