Four years after foraying into the over-the-top (OTT) space, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) is launching an ad-supported video on demand (VoD) platform next week.

Named OZEE, the platform’s website is currently available in beta version.

The mobile app will go live next week on Android and iOS. OZEE is being launched by ZEEL’s digital arm Zee Digital Convergence Ltd (ZDCL), which also operates subscription-driven OTT platform Ditto TV.

The VoD platform is being headed by Karan Jaitapkar, who is also the technology head of ZDCL.

Currently, Star India and Sony Pictures Networks have their own VoD platforms Hotstar and Sony Liv.

Viacom18 is in the process of launching its VoD platform named Voot.

The new platform will only have ZEEL-owned content in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali. Ditto TV, on the other hand, aggregates content from other broadcasters as well.

It also produces original content, which will be available on OZEE as well. Currently, OZEE has content from Zee TV, &TV, Zee Marathi, Zee Telugu, Zee Bangla, Zee Kannada, Zee Tamil and Zindagi.

All the fresh content that airs on Zee channels will be uploaded on OZEE after 10 minutes from the telecast. OZEE will have movies from the Zee library.

Besides TV shows and movies, the platform will have short videos which include movie trailers, Bollywood news and food. Unlike rival platforms, OZEE also has music videos from Zee Music Company’s bouquet. OZEE, however, won’t have English shows and films on its platform as ZEEL doesn’t have the digital rights for this content.

ZEEL is in talks to acquire those rights. It will also stream live sporting events on the platform in partnership with Ten Sports, which is the sports broadcasting arm of ZEEL.
