Airtel Digital TV, one of India’s leading DTH companies, has surprised its users with the addition of two unexpected HD channels named Zee Zest HD and Vijay Super HD. Priced at Rs.10, Zee Zest HD is available on LCN 415 while Vijay Super HD priced at Rs.19, is available on LCN 773. Vijay Super HD was added on October 18 and Zee Zest HD was added on October 27.
Zee Zest is a 24-hour food and lifestyle channel owned by Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited. Its SD version is available across all leading DTH platforms but its HD version was exclusively available on Tata Play, until Airtel Digital TV added it on October 27. For the unversed, Zee Zest began its journey in 2010 as ‘Zee Khanna Khazana’. Later, in 2015, it was renamed as Living Foodz. On October 1, 2020, it got its current name Zee Zest and started its operations with a unique programming lineup. Some of its popular shows are Konkan Diaries, India’s Best Resorts, Highway Dreams, Shonar Bengal, Luxe Pins, Patt-ay Ki Baat, and Safari India. These programs are hosted by well-known chefs and anchors like Ajay Chopra, Rakesh Raghunathan, Pankaj Bhadouria, and Kunal Kapur. Some of its major competitors include TLC, FOX Life, and Travelxp. The channel has a dedicated fanbase and is mostly popular among women and housewives.
Vijay Super HD, on the other hand, is a Tamil movie channel showcasing blockbuster Tamil movies and is owned by Disney Star India Private Limited. It was launched in August 2016 as Star Vijay Super but in 2023 it was renamed as Vijay Super and subsequently, its HD version was launched in April 2023. D2H was the first to add it. It’s yet to be added to Tata Play albeit its SD version is available across all the leading DTH platforms. It’s one of the secondary channels of the Star Vijay Family which includes Star Vijay (the primary flagship channel), and Star Vijay Takkar (previously known as Star Vijay Music). These channels are owned by Disney Star Asinet, a subsidiary of Disney Star that has control over the South Indian language channels (Malayalam, Kannada & Tamil) of the company.
These additions are special gifts from Airtel Digital TV to its viewers, as Zee Zest HD is not available in Dish TV and D2H despite being a subsidiary of the Excel group to which the channel belongs while Vijay Super HD is available only in D2H apart from Airtel Digital TV. There was a huge demand from Tamil people for the addition of this channel and Airtel has finally fulfilled it.
