Free to Air (FTA) Music broadcaster 9X Media is going to suspend the operations of its international English music channel 9XO effective 31st May 2020, according to reports.
According to an image of the purported internal email sent by 9X Media which DreamDTH is in receipt of courtesy of our community member Akash Solanki, 9X Media in view of the ongoing COVID-19 scenario has decided to take a couple of strategic business decisions. The suspension of the operation of its English music channel 9XO is part of the strategy. 9X Media states that the channel will no longer be uplinked effective 1st June 2020.
Advertising revenues for Free to Air (FTA) channels have dropped manifolds by 70-80% making it hard for them to survive. 9X recently exited DD Free Dish withdrawing 9X Jalwa from the platform. The coming suspension of 9XO operations has left the 9XO viewers disappointed.
The exit of 9XO will give a VH1 a free run in the English Music genre with no competitors at all. Nat Geo Music had earlier exited the genre last year with its shutdown. Vh1 had last week stated that it had garnered over 10 million weekly tune-ins for three consecutive weeks with 6x higher viewership than the competition.
DreamDTH has reached out to 9X Media for a comment on the movement. We are yet to get a response at the time of filing this story.

9XO Social Media handles remain alive. So, it could come back if things improve, as 9X simply stated that it was suspending operations.
