After Airtel Digital TV added Gemini Movies HD last Friday (8 November 2019), it has added Gemini Music HD, the only HD music channel in Telugu, as of 15 November 2019. Gemini Music HD is available on channel number 931. As before, DreamDTH spotted this first. The channel is available with Dolby Digital audio, like its Tamil counterpart Sun Music HD.
Sun Direct, the Sun network’s DTH service, has carried the channel exclusively on LCN 824 since its launch in March 2017 along with Gemini Movies HD, Surya HD, and Udaya HD. In general, Tata Sky, the largest DTH operator by channel count, is quick to add new HD channels, and it added these three Sun HD channels quickly enough, soon after Sun Direct. But it has not added Gemini Music HD. Now, Airtel Digital TV has taken a lead over Tata Sky in adding this channel that was previously exclusive to Sun Direct.
With this addition, Airtel Digital TV has 85 HD channels including one exclusive channel (&xplor HD, the Zee network’s premium Hindi movie channel), the second-highest HD channel count after Tata Sky with 91 HD channels. It now has all 8 Telugu HD channels (except the four new ETV HD channels that are not available on any DTH), which is more than any other DTH operator. Tata Sky and Sun Direct have 7 each; the former lacks Gemini Music HD, as noted above, and the latter lacks Star Maa Movies HD.
Moreover, Gemini Music HD is only the second HD music channel on Airtel Digital TV after Sun Music HD in Tamil, as it does not have any Hindi or English HD music channels. Previously it had two Hindi HD music channels, MTunes HD and Sony Rox HD, but they were shut down by the broadcaster. The DTH operator is yet to add the remaining HD music channels (all run by the Viacom18 network): MTV Beats HD (Hindi music), MTV HD+ (Hindi youth and music) and VH1 HD (English music).
