Adani Group’s NDTV to launch 9 regional news channels, seeks I&B Ministry’s nod

NDTV, which was previously controlled by Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, will inform the stock exchanges about the launch dates of these channels once the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting clears the plan.

NDTV is set to launch nine news channels in different languages.

The company's board of directors has approved a proposal to seek permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to launch nine new channels.

NDTV will inform stock exchanges on the launch date of these channels once it receives the ministry's approval.

Outlining the plans for NDTV, Adani Group Founder and Chairman Gautam Adani had said earlier, "The Adani Group is privileged to further bolster NDTV with world-class infrastructure and talent and transform NDTV into a thriving multi-platform global news organization."

To break even they need more regional channels. 9X group went from loss making to a loss making channel to a highly profitable one by expanding to niche and regional markets. Based on how much resources is required to run a national news channel. It's best to break into regional market. Sooner or later Times will expand too.
