TRAI had amended the tariff order for the 4th time. This time, the changes are significant as well. In summary, below are the changes

  • Removal of NCF cap for the service providers
  • Discounts in the channels part of the DPO bouquets up to 45%
  • If a pay channel is available for free on any DPO, the broadcaster must declare the channel as FTA to level the playing field
  • No carriage fee distinction between HD and SD channels to recognize the increased penetration of HD television sets
  • Single ceiling for carriage fee
  • Prescription of charges for service visits, activation, relocation, temporary suspension removed.
  • DPOs can display DRP along with MRP on the EPG
  • Validity of all prepaid subscriptions to be specified in days only
