In 2014 the top six Hindi GECs had to launch a
total of 31 new fiction shows. In some cases, it
was to replace a long-running show, or do away
with a non-performer.

In all, Zee TV launched the maximum number of
shows, seven in total, followed by Star Plus and
Life OK, each with six new shows. Sony
Entertainment Television (SET) changed its
entire line-up with five shows, except for
‘Maharana Pratap’. SAB launched four shows
while Colors launched three.

Interestingly, when it comes to debut ratings, Zee
TV ruled the roost with six out of the seven
shows it launched making it to the top 14 debut
list. In fact, the top four slots were captured by
Zee TV shows.

Star Plus had four shows in the best debut list,
followed by two from Colors and one each from
SET and SAB.

Top fiction launches 2014
Zee TV’s ‘Jamai Raja’ was at No. 1 with 5488
TVTs (television viewership in thousands),
followed by its latest primetime offering ‘Satrangi
Sasural’ which opened in Week 49 with 4970
TVTs, ‘Bandhan’ with 4366 TVTs and ‘Aur Pyar
Ho Gaya’ at No. 4 with 4044 TVTs. It is pertinent
to note here that ‘Aur Pyar Ho Gaya’ could not
continue its golden run and the show was taken
off air in Week 48.

In the fifth slot was Star Plus’ ‘Ek Haseena Thi’,
which opened with 390 TVTs. However, the show
was among the top 10 fiction shows in the 50th
week.

Some shows started low but picked up later, like
‘Kumkum Bhagya’ (opening week 2841 TVTs),
which scaled up gradually and touched a peak of
8043 TVTs. Or ‘Airlines’, ‘Hum Hain Na’ and ‘Badi
Door…’ which saw a decent start but eventually
saw a fall in viewership.

However, in the list of the five most successful
shows, Star Plus had just one show, while Zee
TV and Colors had two shows each.
