From 1 June 2000 DD Sports became satellite channel.

Happy 25th Anniversary to "DD SPORTS"

DD Sports was launched on 18 March 1998. In the beginning, it broadcast sports programmes for six hours a day, which was increased to 12 hours in 1999. From 1 June 2000, DD Sports became a "round-the-clock" satellite channel. It was an encrypted pay channel between 2000 and 2003, and on 15 July 2003, it became the only free-to-air sports channel in the country

One of the best Sports Channel for DD Free Dish Users. Hope they launch DD Sports 2 also as they have lots of Local Contents to telecast.

National Important Channel. One of the best channels that covered every important event when private broadcasters. It was not Neo, Star, Sony or Ten Sports who acquired the rights of biggest event we ever hosted. It was Doordarshan. Only after 2012 private players started taking interest in events like Olympics. Commonwealth Games Delhi were aired exclusively on Doordarshan. Their coverage of Olympics despite having limited channels is unmatched. Even now when private broadcasters are not interested DD acquires the rights of important events to show us on even private TV. I think proper investment and small time cricket rights can really benefit DD Sports. I hope they go for regional rights like TNPL or even rights of international boards like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or West Indies in future to make the channel appealing and profitable. Even domestic cricket can help. Only proper promotion is there. If DD News can make huge investment to earn ratings. So can DD Sports.

I love watching sports on DD Sports ( specially cricket)
Even i have one story when matches were shifted from dd national to dd sports
I think it was India vs Sri lanka bilateral series i was kid at that time i don't remember the year but i was waiting for the match on dd national and thought maybe cricket is being stopped on dd national
As i was a kid i didn't try to find every channel on dd free dish
After 2-3 hours i accidentally switched to dd sports which was just 1 channel down from dd national i still remember india got all out at 112 against sri lanka
Meanwhile........ May be someone find broadcasting of dd sports boring and outdated but i used to love watching this channel specially that amul and bkt tires break break after every over and wicket when they have limited sponsors....... Even now i prefer to watch matches on dd free dish
I know you will find my story boring and useless but this is my nostalgia bro dd sports and cricket
