Interesting to see that JV is without TS (other two - Sun & RD - which are not much interested in business or not having pan-india presence), only indian cos forming alliance.
As they are in talks to form JV for content & carriage, it will be interesting to see whether they will be sharing sats in future which will be hugh saving for them & also to kill competition from TS which is aiming to become no.1.

agreed wid @suniel bro.
This way they'll increase the carriage fees. If the channel really want to be on DTH, then only it'll pay otherwise :gn

What will happen with this JV ?

when a channel want to carry it on any dth [in case of fta channels]. Channel give more carries fee to one particular dth and get popularity hence other dth user force to add that channel and in this case channel not ready to pay carries fee to other dth. This is the main issue.
What can do dth by Jv?
Simple no dth[if they unite] will carry a channel till channel ready to pay carries fee for all dth. Very simple.

Tata Sky never become no. 1 they charge user for the fta channel also.

So again it will customers loss as DTH players will be forming a catel much like infamous telecom cartel A-Vo-Id.....:-/
Now here, it can be called as A-Vi-D (only for forming cartel & looting customer money) - Here A (for Airtel) is common....:lol
Many small regional channels will be at loss as they will not be able to find place in DTH arena.....:'(
Again cable will prove its might in providing place to many regional/local channels....:k
And lastly, we may not find many channels to be able to compare from different DTH...;)

I think some of the DTH cos which have been adding channels recently are planning to raise obstacles in distribution of regional channels. We can see it by the way DTH cos have been reacting to the launch of PY. They are spreading rumours that it is going to fail & that there is no point in adding the channel in their bouquet.

Regional/local channels are increasing in nos rapidly & DTH are forced to add these channels as Ch becomes popular and due to public pressure.

Cartellization will affect overall growth of regional channels. Again so called national channels will dominate the TV arena affecting regional TV/media industry.
We can see that some players are not much interested in regional market & their main interest lies in the growth of national channels. So that they can make more money by providing less channels to subscriber.

This again shows that cartellization by big market players is becoming prominent in todays globalised world much like how big supermarkets are using their muscle/money & pricing power in the market to hoard large onion stockpile & thus raising retail onion prices.

Except SUN DTH, rest all are like Cartel. One hiked price till Rs 220, others blindly followed.

Just like AirTel hiked call rate from 1p/s to 1.2p/s and others followed! Now they charge 1.65p/sec (huh)
