In an attempt to build stronger connect with the audience, Gujarat Samachar is planning to launch its own TV channel ‘Aaspaas TV’. The venture will commence operations in second week of November.
The first priority of the channel will be news. There will also be general entertainment content.
The work on Aaspaas TV has already started. Nilesh Thakkar has joined as Director – Sales and Marketing. He takes charge from today. His last stint was with TV9, an Associated Broadcasting Company brand. He will report to Shreyans Shah, Owner of Gujarat Samachar.
Talking to exchange4media, Thakkar said, “Regional market is the big fish right now and we have to compete with national news and entertainment channels. We will target consumers in Mumbai and Gujarat.”
Digitisation deadline is also in November and the channel will be available at that time. It will work in the favour of channel as there will be a large effect on the distribution cost, shared Thakkar.
The channels is targeting advertisers around the country and also trying to reach on all platforms, from cable to DTH.
The promotion strategy hasn’t been decided yet but there are some plans to market the initiative through print and outdoor.
“I have an advantage of working with regional channels earlier but this new task is also difficult as I have to understand the pulse of the people,” added Thakkar.
Thakkar has worked with Chitralekha Marathi/Gujarati; spent three years with Zee Marathi, Bangla and Gujarati; five years at Star Majha, Star News and Star Ananda, along with stints at Manorama and Dalal Street Journal.
