The original Avatar pioneered new 3D and motion capture techniques and kicked off a wave of 3D blockbusters. Cameron has a long history of developing great sequels (Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and Avatar’s ending teased more to come, but the filmmaker would spend the better part of a decade developing sequel concepts and new tech. There are four sequels planned, with potential titles being revealed last year; Avatar: The Way Of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest For Eywa.

While Avatar 2 and Avatar 3's production schedules were halted because of coronavirus (COVID-19), filming is set to resume again next week.

Producer Jon Landau posted on Instagram to let fans know what was going on, writing, "Our Avatar sets are ready — and we couldn’t be more excited to be headed back to New Zealand next week."

Avatar 4 - From 18/12/26 to 21/12/29
Avatar 5 - From 22/12/28 to 19/12/31

Avatar 3 Delayed a Year to 2025, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 Pushed

The Avatar sequels are being delayed yet again, with Avatar 3 arriving in 2025 followed by Avatar 4 in 2029 and Avatar 5 in 2031.
