I wonder why would a network sacrifice an established brand that's one of the pioneers of the genre in our nation.

1. SPN is repeatedly shutting down channels but not launching new ones, despite having the licences for them? Example: Sony Marathi HD. And it is not planning to launch any new Hindi movie channels it so desperately needs. (Note: How come SPN is happily shutting down channels despite COVID? Surely COVID is not a barrier to launch new channels if it wanted to?)

2. Zee is not shutting down any channels? It has too many channels and its English genre is struggling. &xplor HD never got any distribution and it should be shutting down sooner or later.

3. Viacom18 and TV18 are not shutting down or launching any channels? Why should only SPN keep shutting down when it has fewer channels to begin with, when V18 is not, despite having many more channels?

For Disney/Star it is understandable since they clearly said that the launch of Star Gold 2 HD, Vijay Music, Disney Channel HD and Star Sports 3 HD has been indefinitely postponed.

Yes, they will bro. But whether the benefit is passed onto you by the DTH/MSO operator is another thing.

This channel has been in India for about 20 yrs now.... truly a sad news.... Indian audiences still need to mature to english language. be it serials or songs.

@JollyLNB bro! I don't think there is any link with TV18 and SPNI merger has any thing to do with Sony shutting down the channels. I guess they are in Financial struggle and clearly Axn and Mix doing them any favors on that matter. As of now Sony 's strong suits are Hindi GEC and Movies and sports for some extent. Restricting their efforts in their strong suits is understandable.

Zee has to let of Zee Cafe & &xplor sooner rather than later. Star with the powerhouse Disney TV Studios(ABC Studios, ABC Singnature, 20th Century Fox Television, Fox 21 Television Studios & FX Productions) along with Universal, Showtime and WB's Crown jewel HBO struggling in English GEC by shutting down FX, FX HD and Star World Premiere HD ready to shutdown.

Bro! We have to believe that if any major changes occurred due to Tv18 and SPNI merger, Business trades would have reported something. At least we would have saw they filing to CCI for merger approval. Even optimistic way! TV18 has covered most of its basis other than Hindi Movies and Sports. So thats enough.

So after ESPN, AXN is saying good bye to us. Still no implications about Sony-Viacom 18 deal and only Sony is shutting down their channels. I think the network is seeking for a compaction inorder to reduce expenses and focus more on intrested genres along with OTT.

Most of the shows aired on English language GEC and movie channels will be already available on OTT .Since,the group which watches these programs is still in minority and out of which most have access to OTT content why they would watch it on TV with Ads and censorship for smallest of things?
