MUMBAI: BBC Worldwide has announced 12 new dramas and eight new returning series on their Mipcom 2014 slate.
The titles range from thrillers and historical dramas to comedies and stories based on real life. They will be showcased to international buyers in Cannes, France next month.
BBC Worldwide’s Mipcom 2014 drama slate includes the new paranormal thriller ‘Intruders’ from BBC Worldwide Productions for BBC America. Set in America’s Pacific Northwest, ‘Intruders’ is a story about a secret society devoted to the search for immortality. Starring Oscar winner Mira Sorvino ‘Mighty Aphrodite’ and John Simm ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Prey, the series is written by Glen Morgan ‘The X-Files’ and is based on Michael Marshall Smith’s novel’ ‘The Intruders’.
Simm, Sorvino, Morgan and Executive Producer Julie Gardner will be attending a special launch event for the series at Mipcom on 14 October.
BBC Worldwide president, global markets Paul Dempsey said, “Our drama slate for this year’s Mipcom blends the best of British creativity with renowned expertise from around the world to bring a truly international range of stories to audiences worldwide.”
‘Our Zoo’ is another new title featured on BBC Worldwide’s drama slate. This series is based on the true story of the Mottershead family who, despite staunch opposition and personal sacrifice, founded Chester Zoo in the 1930s. The series stars Lee Ingleby, Liz White and Anne Reid.
Meanwhile, ‘The Refugees’ is a thriller, which explores the impact of a disaster on a small, rural community. ‘The Passing Bells’ is a drama set during World War One and forms a key part of BBC One’s programming to mark the centenary of the war.
The BBC Worldwide drama slate also includes the returning seasons of ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Atlantis’ and ‘Call the Midwife’.
