Czech TV tests Ultra-HD
Czech TV has been testing 4K/Ultra-HD using its T2 terrestrial network.
According to Ivo Ferkl, Czech TV’s technology director, the 4K resolution era will start this yearand he added that deployment of Ultra HDTV is faster than the deployment of HDTV. Receivers for 4K resolution will be available in the market at an affordable price within three years and within ten years, they should be present in 70 – 80 percent of households.
Currently the tests are using MPEG-4 compression but later this year the broadcaster will start using HEVC equipment. The test programme will continue until November. However, Ferki gave no firm commitment as to when his network would start transmissions in 4K.
