MUMBAI: The High Court of Orissa has restrained the implementation of digital addressable system (DAS) Phase III in Orissa.
Along with other HC orders in some other states, this implies that multi-system operators (MSOs) and local cable operators (LCOs) will get a breather in deploying set-top boxes (STBs) in several parts of the country.
In its order today, the HC of Orissa has directed the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) to consider the representation submitted by Ortel Communications, a leading multi-system operator (MSO) in the state.
Ortel had written to the MIB seeking time for the implementation of DAS due to the unavailability of STBs.
The HC has asked the MIB to consider Ortel’s representation within two months from communication of the order and give the MSO an opportunity of hearing.
The court has further directed the MIB not to take any coercive action until then.
Earlier, Ortel had moved the HC challenging the sunset date for implementation of DAS and inaction of the MIB on its representation for extension of time.
