With the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) tariff order and interconnect regulation moving closer to reality in light of the Madras High Court judgement, direct to home (DTH) Dish TV India is doing short-term deals in anticipation of the tariff order implementation.

Speaking with analysts recently, Dish TV chairman and managing director C(MD) Jawahar Goel said that the company is doing 3-4 month contracts keeping in mind the tariff order implementation.

That means if tariff order is not implemented in time there will be again channels vanishing from DishTv/D2h,Sony channel deal is also pending and not renewed till date because they feel it will be much cheaper to get deal renewed after this order is implemented

He also noted that the tariff order will remove discrimination. “We will get the content at the same cost as a cable operator in Chennai like Arasu Cable. The same price will be applicable to us,” he stated.
The Dish TV CMD also said that the combination of Dish TV-Videocon d2h has started showing results as it has managed to reduce content costs in some cases.
“I can say the broadcasters have recognised the combined entity. Earlier we used to give 7%, 8%, 5% increase. This is no longer the case rather. In some of the cases, we have reduced the content costs while some agreements are still pending,” he noted
