After setting footprints in seven states across India, Zing, the sub-brand of direct-to-home (DTH) operator Dish TV, is now gearing up for launch in Kerala.
Positioned to tap the regional-language consumption market, Zing will launch in Kerala ahead of the 31 December 2015 deadline for digital addressable system (DAS) in Phase III towns.
Dish TV, however, has not disclosed the date of Zing’s launch in Kerala.
Incidentally, the whole of Kerala will be open for DAS in Phases III and IV.
Zing will carry the Malayalam channels and offer it to consumers at a price that it believes will help it to tap the local market.
Said Dish TV managing director Jawahar Goel, “Our regional offering Zing is soon to be launched in Kerala and will carry the largest cache of vernacular channels offered in that market.
Zing cemented Dish TV’s supremacy in the DAS Phase III and IV markets with custom-made content, hardware and service packages for the regional audience.”
Zing was first launched in West Bengal in March last year, and within one year, the company took it to markets like Tripura, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
With Zing, Dish TV wants to target the price-sensitive regional analogue viewers in Phase III and IV markets.
In fact, while Dish TV’s net subscriber addition in the first quarter was at 390,000, Zing’s share in the incremental subscriber additions was as much as 22 per cent.
