An Abu Dhabi court has come down heavily on a shop selling (Indian) Dish TV STBs & subscription services.

The shop has been shut down for 1 year, the shop manager deported & fined Dirham 200,000 (Rs. 35 Lakhs).

The court order came on a case filed by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which raided the shop following a complaint filed by OSN cable network.

It is a well-known fact that Dish TV STBs and subscriptions are sold widely in the UAE, since Dish TV's footprint spills over the Middle East. Dish TV's Indian subscription rates are almost 90% lower than those of local Cable TV & DTH platforms. As a result, Dish TV is widely sought after and installed by the expat Indian population in the Middle East.

Dish TV does not have software rights / licenses to offer its content outside Indian territory.

Bad news for expats :(

But it won't stop selling indian dth in middle east :hehe
