Muslims in India and Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on thursday, July 7 as the moon of the Shawwal month had not been sighted today in many parts of the country. Eid is celebrated on 1st day of Shawwal, which also ends the one month of continuous fasting during the holy month of Ramazan.
Jama Masjid Shahi Imam, Ahmed Bukhari today said, “Moon has not been sighted in any parts of the country, hence Eid (2016) will be celebrated on July 7, Thursday”. Also India’s moon sighting committee, Markazi Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee, Masjid-e-Jama Mumbai declared that there are no news of moon in Maharashtra. There were no news of moon in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra including the national capital.
Maulana Kalbe Sadiq of Lucknow Chand Committee reportedly said that Eid moon was not seen in Lucknow and hence Eid will be celebrated a day after.
In Bangladesh the national Moon-Sighting Committee, said that the Eid will be celebrated in the country on Thursday. The decision was taken after a meeting at Islamic Foundation in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Tuesday.
Bangladesh committee head said that the panel’s seven divisional and 64 district offices failed to see the moon. Eid is one of the most important festival observe among Muslims, which also marks the end of the holy month of Ramazan.
In India, only Kerala has been declared tomorrow, since most of the scholars there follow the Shafi school of thought. Moon was also sighted in Kargil and Pakistan occupied Kashmir, following which people living there will celebrate Eid. Pakistan is to take a call shortly.
