Yes I know, Airtel has mentioned only Dolby Atmos not Dolby Vision. Which one is India's first Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos set top box Sun Direct Max or Airtel Xstream?
I did check you are right; sun direct Max 4k stb supports Dolby vision and Atmos :) , they have 3 channel as well with Dolby vision (sun next ott app, Live channels) , I can play on my LG G4 TV .

Airtel did not mentioned about Dolby vision, this means what

Did they test Dolby Atmos like this, in which set top box?

This is spec of Xstream4_AR

Xstream4_AR supports AV1, VP9, H.264, and H.265 (HEVC) are all video codecs with different strengths and use cases.
Netflix uses H.264/AVC and AV1 for standard dynamic range content and H.265/HEVC for Dolby Vision.
So Xstream4_AR can support Dolby Vision, I sent a mail to airtel , let us see what they say.

  • H.265 (HEVC) ( to support Dolby Vision) A codec with better compression and quality for 4K content, but it involves licensing fees. It's one of the most efficient codecs available today
  • AV1 A royalty-free codec with efficient compression that's gaining popularity for streaming platforms. However, it has a slow encoding speed and isn't compatible with some hardware and software.
  • VP9 An open-source codec that's well-supported by Google platforms and is widely adopted by streaming platforms and web browsers.
  • H.264 A codec that's less efficient than AV1 and HEVC.

The choice of codec depends on specific needs and use cases. For example, streaming platforms may use a combination of codecs to ensure compatibility with a wide range of devices.
