In 2011 and all there were too many Telugu news channels compared to other languages. But now Kannada has overtaken it (@zaxotes will know) and to an extent Tamil also.
I don't know why there are so few news channels in Malayalam and Marathi.

Malayalam has 10 and I think that's a good number in comparison.
