Targeted at rural India, the channel will provide news and analysis on topical issues of national and international importance in agriculture.

Nomad Films India, a Mumbai-based production house, is set to foray into broadcasting business with the launch of an agriculture channel, Green TV.

The channel aims to provide updates of news and analysis on topical issues of national and international importance in agriculture. It will also analyse issues involving biotechnology, farm mechanisation, crop protection, horticulture, animal husbandry, food processing, agribusiness, research and high-tech agriculture.

While the test signals started on August 15, Nomad is expected to officially launch the channel in October this year. Since the channel is targeted at rural India, it is being aired on cable networks.

Nomad Films' managing director Junaid Memon is the promoter of Green TV. He spent five years travelling in villages and meeting rural folk. "If we could contribute a small percentage through our programmes, India could become an agricultural powerhouse." Memon is of the opinion that rural India has the potential to drive this easily. "We intend to use clear, useful and value-added communication to empower Rural India. Our efforts will supplement, not compete with government initiatives. We will seek to actively partner government bodies in spreading awareness in rural society of various support programmes." The channel believes there is an exciting growth opportunity in Rural India and that it is becoming the epicenter of India's growth story.
