With the payloads turned on, GSAT-15 will be ready for use after the completion of the in-orbit testing, Union Minister of State Atomic Energy and Space Dr Jitendra Singh said in the Rajya Sabha.

The orbit raising, deployment, parking of satellite in designated orbit of 93.5 degree, and the three-axis stabilisation of the Ku-band satellite GSAT-15 have been completed successfully, he added.

The minister informed that all the three post-launch orbit-raising manoeuvres for GSAT-15 spacecraft were carried out successfully during 12–14 November according to the planned sequence of events.

With this, all the orbit-raising manoeuvres have been completed.

GSAT-1 is a high-power satellite being inducted into the INSAT/GSAT system.

It was launched by Ariane-5 VA-227 launch vehicle from Kourou, French Guiana, on the early morning of 11 November.

Weighing 3,164 kg at lift-off, GSAT-15 carries 24 communication transponders in Ku-band as well as a GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) payload operating in L1 and L5 bands.

GSAT-15 is the third satellite to carry GAGAN payload after GAST-8 and GSAT-10, which are already providing navigation services from orbit.

GSAT-15 also carries a Ku-band beacon to help in accurately pointing ground antennas towards the satellite.

It will replace INSAT-3A and INSAT-4B.
