Just want to correct you a bit today it's not only new year in deccan region but for all hindus even in Madhya Pradesh & north India as it is the start of vikram samvat 2075 (Hindu calender) named after king vikramaditya of ujjain, Indore (madhya pradesh).
So happy Hindu new year 2075.
