Seeing todays shows running on television makes me think where our Film industry has evolved from running around the tree to some meaningful stories but as far as TV shows are concerned they have drastically lost its charm and gone backwards, todays TV is missing shows which were considered taboo for us Indian audience. shows like hasratein (Zeetv) or Saans (Star tv), Game shows like Antakshari (Zeetv), Saanp seedi (Zee tv) or Khuljaa sim sim (Star Plus) were Fun to watch but now No game shows available in Indian TV even Bournvita quiz Contest was Amazing show which gave knowledge to school kids.... reality tv back then when Sa Re ga ma (Zee tv) or Indian idol (Sony tv) or even KBC (Star Plus) was very genuine and natural but now if we see its full of drama and made up.... Comedy shows have gone for a toss, shows like Hum Panch (Zeetv) to Khichdi (Star Plus) or Dekh bhai Dekh (DD/Sonytv) or Zuban sambhal ke or Office Office etc there were many Comedy shows during 1990's to mid 2000's on our Indian TV. Horror shows were genuine as well shows like Zee Horror show (Zeetv), Aahat (Sony tv) or Woh (Zee tv) was based on movie IT even Mano ya na mano was also good and different Show.... really miss those Days of Indian Television.... Channels show look back at their previous shows and learn and should make necessary changes to their Programming if they want to be relevant in todays time, As of today Indian tv is dead NO good/ relevant shows are being aired.

Because these shows don't get ratings now because their target audiences have shifted towards ott

There's a few points you can make.
-Awful storytelling that keeps the shows lagging on forever.
-Extremelly short runtimes or excessively long ones.
-Oversponsorship that lead to long and repetitive ad breaks that make shows unwatchable.
-TOO MANY CHANNELS.
-Advertisements disguised at shows or news panels.
-Lame premieres or dull offers, the latter extremelly notable in news and affairs channels.
-Lack of dynamism and flexibility in every channel.

Even films have lost the plot - there overdependence on odd type of songs (item) in most movies to attract audience to theatres to watch their movies as they are not confident in their story that will make audience to watch their movies in theatres. even Hollywood don't do unnecessary scenes nowadays . stretching the film to make forced sequels of the movie .

Hum Paanch remake was tried but it didn't emote same emotions from fans, zabaan sambaal ke remake was done badly , if they ever did sequel it should retain original series light comedy ,not crude jokes made in web-series.

One of the reason of lost charm is too many channels, repetitive stories in each and every shows, 7 days shows while in past we have great shows which are either weekly or bi- weekly different shows for weekends game shows variety shows which mentioned above in todays reality show have more drama than drama shows itself that's why audience shifted towards ott as they are getting old times content quantity wise there
I think Indian show runner should learn from kdrama where there is lot of variety and show ends in max 16-20 episodes max to attract viewers back kdramas also have long running shows but that too also ends by 60-70 episodes even pakistani shows end by 20-25 episodes and they run bi-weekly in both countries
