The truth is, there is absolutely no chance of Akshay Kumar returning to Hera Pheri. ETimes spoke to a very close friend of the star who revealed, “These are stories being spread by someone who desperately wants to make the project (Hera Pheri 3) much bigger than it actually is. Akshay has not met the producer. He has shown no interest in returning to Hera Pheri. Andar ki baat toh yeh hai ki Akshay Anees Bazmee ke saath comedy phir se karna chahte hai. Lekin Hera Pheri nahin. Bilkul nahin.”

"I have been approached to direct Hera Pheri 3. We are working out my dates. The producers haven’t told me about Kartik or Akshay. They told me that they want me to direct the film. So I asked them how do we work out the dates. I have already directed two films for them - Welcome and Welcome Back. They want me to make Welcome 3 as well. Currently, I am busy with a couple of my films. Let’s see what works out and how." he said.

It was also reported that Kartik has joined the franchise as a fresh character. However ETimes confirmed that Kartik is yet to take a call. "The makers have assured him that his character is completely removed from Akshay Kumar’s character. Kartik has said yes in principle. But he will take a final call only after seeing the script,” a source informed.

In the fight to bag Hera Pheri 3, it seems that Firoz Nadiadwala has got all his creative juice into the scripting process. According to well-informed sources, the producer has locked not one but two scripts of Hera Pheri 3 and is now on the verge of locking the star cast of the film. "Firoz wants to make the film, that's confirmed," informs a well-placed source.

“On Saturday, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Firoz Nadiadwala had a long meeting at Empire Studios in Mumbai. This is the first time in years that the original team of Hera Pheri was in the same roof. In-fact, on seeing them all together, the entire staff at Empire Studio got emotional and expressed their excitement,” revealed a source close to the development, adding further that the meeting went on for a while and everyone was just excited and went down the memory lane with regards to their journey with Raju, Shyam and Baburao.

The source adds, “The journey of Hera Pheri 1 in 1999 began in Empire Studios. 24 years later, the first ever official meeting for Hera Pheri 3 between the entire cast and producer too has happened at Empire Studio. The team also realised this and a core part of conversation was about getting back together for the franchise at the same place where it all started. It’s all coming together and hopefully, we would hear an official announcement from the stakeholders soon.”

Interestingly, the first Hera Pheri also went on floors at Empire Studios in Mumbai back in 1999 and now, 24 years later, it’s like life coming full circle. Apart from the original Hera Pheri trio, Hera Pheri 3 will have several acclaimed actors in the comic space and more details on the entire extended ensemble of India’s biggest comic franchise will be unveiled in the coming few days. The director name is still not known to us yet, but we will be breaking a news on this too in a couple of days.
