ICC gets 17 bids for media rights

MUMBAI: In response to its invitation to tender
issued in July 2014, the International Cricket
Council (ICC) has received 17 bids from various
broadcasters across different territories for
audio-visual rights in respect of ICC events
during 2015–2023.
All bids are now in the process of being
reviewed for compliance with the terms and
conditions of the tender arrangements. At this
stage, the ICC declined to provide further details.
Three events are in India. One can expect Star
and Sony to fiercely compete for the rights. The
ICC is expecting to earn a whopping $2.4 billion
for the media rights. The previous eight-year
rights were sold to ESPN Star Sports for $1.2
billion.
The winner is expected to be announced in
December.
