India´s DTH provider Dish TV, a conglomerate of media pioneer Zee Group collaborates with satellite antenna manufacturer Gilat for installing in-train Live entertainment services for moving trains. Live TV, news, matches and movies can be watched by the travelers through the TVs connected with STBs which are installed in every suite. The antenna is focused to receive digital signals from Dish´s satellite which enables moving trains heading in any direction and at any speed to relish seamless connectivity.
This mobile train technology is installed in every cabinet and suite of the luxury train- Maharaja Express, which is owned and operated by Indian railways (IRCTC), a public sector enterprise governed by Ministry of Railways. Salil Kapoor, COO, Dish TV said, “ It is indeed a proud moment for us to take TV entertainment to a completely unprecedented level by bringing Live TV experience to one of the top twenty five luxury trains in the world – Maharaja Express. We continue to provide the latest technology through our constant innovation to the consumers.”.
In 2010, Dish TV had launched Mobile Train Technology on other Indian trains such as Palace on Wheels and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels and two other luxury trains. Dish TV is also in progressive discussions to extend this services to Shadabti express.
Gilat in 2010 had acquired Satellite on the Move antenna company Raysat Antenna Systems for USD 25 million , through which it provides mobile antennas for this initiative. This service is one among Dish TV´s innovative initiative for widening its reach in the growing DTH market .
