I see most DAS cable MSO's offer a basic package of Rs 100 across the nation as per TRAI's order except SCV and every one who paid Rs 100 for Analogue has to pay a minimum of Rs 133.50 as they are money greedy, why do they fail to understand why should the people pay more for a basic package channels?

Please check the below.

Ok, one more comparison,

HATHWAY DIGITAL PREMIUM PACKAGE @ Rs. 275/- p.m. + taxes

and

Same premium packages for Additional TVs @ just Rs.138/- p.m.+tax

And total Rs 275/- p.m.+tax for 1 Tv (1 prime).

And total Rs 413/- p.m.+tax for 2 Tv's (1 prime and 1 additional so 2).

And total Rs 551/- p.m.+tax for 3 Tv's (1 prime and 2 additional so 3).

But for SCV PLATINUM @ Rs 290/- p.m.+tax

Total Rs 290/- p.m.+tax for 1 Tv (1 prime).

And total Rs 580/- p.m.+tax for 2 Tv's (1 prime and 1 additional so 2).

And total Rs 870/- p.m.+tax for 3 Tv's (1 prime and 2 additional so 3).

See, the cost jumps right from the basic Package for almost the same number of channels but i assume a better quality with multiple MSO's in business in other Cities.

if scv shows these many channels, no one will watch SUN network..

Well said, this is the magic of Sun networks success.

SUN channels are very very good once upon a time.. (post 2000). but after that it declines it quality.
Hence SCV tries to save their channel by doing like this.. (Stopping others channels , showing sun channels in prime band etc).
It will be good if sun tries to improve their quality by reducing serials , start some other new programmes like vijay doing.

Yes, well said. I watch 95% English channels and news as Tamil channels nowadays are damn boring. When we had puthiyathalaimurai i used to even watch some news before going to bed and it took around 40 - 60 % of my TV time.

Pearl...
there is not a single pay channel in any of the 100Rs package in other cities( i checked DEN package which you have pointed... whereas in chennai you get the complete tamil pack with sports.( why is that you dont consider that)

vijay tv, sun network, jaya network are all pay channels. apart from that you are getting all the sports channels with an exclusion of sonysix and neo network. it is actually working cheaper.

pearl.. cable operators cannot cater to only one user. they have to see the major chunk of the people. SUN network and vijay tv is the most watched than any of the other FTA channels. if you want only FTA put a C band dish point to intelsat 17 and you will get the all the channels for freee for lifetime.

Nopes, TRAI says MSO cant escape by saying that most of them don't want so cant give, else they loose the licence. Please read the following and let me know where it says to get FTA i need a C Band Dish??

Q 3. What is a basic service tier (BST). Is it compulsory to choose the BST offered by cable operator?
A. In DAS, cable operator has to compulsorily offer a package of 100 free-to-air (FTA) channels, called Basic Service Tier(BST) at a MRP of Rs. 100/-(exclusive of taxes) per month per connection. The consumer can also choose any combination of free to air channels up to 100 channels, in lieu of the basic service tier offered by the multi-system operator at a MRP of Rs. 100/-(exclusive of taxes). While Cable operator has to offer the Basic Service Tier, it is not obligatory for consumer to subscribe to the BST

TRAI has set rules keeping the common man in mind, now its time to TRAI to force these rules on MSO's and strip off their licence if they fail to obey.

When TCCL gives such a package why should i go to SCV,
dinamalar14.jpg
.

Well, first my point is not for me. But for a person who doesn't want to /cant pay more than Rs 100 but still want some cable and news, this is why TRAI has put a rule that says these 100 channels cant be of the same genre but atleast at least 5 channels of each genre namely news and current affairs, infotainment, sports, kids, music, lifestyle, movies and general entertainment in Hindi, English and regional language of the region. So people who have their own Channel's don't thrust people with their own choice or make the BST (FTA) package meaningless by placing just the prasar bharati's channels alone in the BST. If TRAI makes people follow rules we can easily see how top channels loose their place or at-least a part of their viewers who have been snatched from other channels with fair or foul means.

Q 4. What is the composition of basic service tier (BST)? A. In DAS, the BST must consists at least 5 channels of each genre namely news and current affairs, infotainment, sports, kids, music, lifestyle, movies and general entertainment in Hindi, English and regional language of the region. In case sufficient number of free to air channels of a particular genre is not available, the multi-system operator shall include in the basic service tier the channels of other genres. Doordarshan channels, namely DD-Bharati, DD-Malyalam, DD-Podhigai, DD-Odiya, DD-Bangla, DD-Saptagiri, DD-Chandana, DD-Sahyadri, DD-Girnar, DD-Kashir, DD-NE , DD-Punjabi shall also form part of BST

If TRAI's rule comes in place we can sure see a sea change in the Cable channel industry and many top channels would be beaten to ground by small funded smaller channels.

You remember, SS Music was once the top music channel in Chennai and everyone knows how that vanished and another channel was forced in its place??

Also MSO's should offer all channels available in India atleast in A La Carte, price can be less or more than other MSO's but availability should be a must that is the reason why channel owners shouldn't be allowed in MSO business.

I'm not blaming someone, but all i want is some fairness in business.

TRAI's regulations are awesome and if put into practice then the common man will be highly befitted,
