When contacted Piyush Mahajan the CEO of Fastway, that has provided setup boxes to cable operators maintained that all the setup boxes have been dispatched on a security fund of Rs 600 each. "The consumers can anytime give the setup box back and take their money or get the problems in the setup box rectified from us", he added.

See, how other cities MSO charge Rs 600 for STB and also guarantees a 100% refund if we give back the STB's. Why cant the MSO's (Except TCCL) offer the same?? At-least i would get some guarantee that i'm not losing my money and will get atleast 2 STB's.

Why always Chennai pays more??

No matter which MSO takes control of the city the subscribers always have to pay more,

STB Cost across India.

Fastway:
Rs 600. (100% Refundable)

Siti Cable, In Cable, Digicable, Hathway, and DEN Networks : Rs 799

SCV: Rs 1200.00

TCCL: Rs 1400.00 (??% Refundable)

Arasu: Rs 1500.00

==

Being a state govt company why does Arasu want to loot customers? Why cant they give STB's at monthly rent or at discounted price?

SCV STB cost is rs. 1300 (not 1200rs.)
And from today morning, in the SCV STB ad channel, package details are not showing.. just showing STB cost rs. 1300 (activation cost).
Looks SCV revising the package after arasu entering chennai...

Yes, SCV may try to offer better packages to compete competitors, but is Arasu really planning to enter Chennai or it is like "Varum aanaa varathu" type?

I have a big doubt if arasu will come in a big way, already many of the cable operators have lost business to DTH due to this digitisation. one more change they will loose the complete business.( unless they come with analog feed there will not be a single customer on cable)

But DTH monthly subscirption cost is high compare even with SCV package.
If Arasu comes with better package than SCV like religional pack with major tamil channels rs. 100 or with one or two sports with rs. 120 etc.., than customer might prefer cable than DTH.
Lot of Advantages in cable compare to DTH.
-> Monthly subscription is less compare to DTH.
-> DTH people have one year warrantly , after that each visit / each service they will charge. But in cable , it is free (we can demand them , by not providing monthly subscription).
-> Rainly reason, dth stucks, but cable is good and far better.
-> only one thing , DTH good is in clarity. But cable is not that much worst , but provides service for that cost .

But currently lot of people swithing DTH in most of chennai and even out of chennai people too..

And if the competition grows between MSO/LCO and DTH , surely they will come up better package and reduce monopoly.

Yes, unless Arasu gives analogue feed LCO's will definitely lose business as collecting 1500 Rs from every customer and supplying the STB's would take more than a month atleast and during this time LCO's cant do an SCV analogue and offer Arasu DAS, so either SCV or TCCL or Arasu and whoever wants business they need to do Analogue first to take control. Failure to go analogue might have kept TCCL from being popular otherwise with its package it could have become some what popular.

But since Arasu is trying to supply STB and start service in channai with CAS licence they might first go Analogue if they really want to land in chennai.

Remind you SCV been selling STBs since 2001.

If fastway like companies in mumbai selling STBs for Rs600, then why cant SCV..?:angry
