Bro, Swades movie was a remake movie they took inspiration from Kannada, sandalwood movie titled " Chigurida Kanasu" released in 2003.

Swades was inspired from a 90s Zee TV serial which starred its director Ashutosh Gowariker

the section of movie inspired was from Kannada novel - Chigurida Kanasu by K Shivarama Karanth published in 1951 which was the original source - lead setting up micro hydro electricity to generate electricity.
