The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has withdrawn permission of four news channels due to denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). These channels are 7 SEA, Mahuaa News UP, ABC News and Voice of Nation.

While Mahuaa News UP is owned by debt-laden Mahuaa Media, which also runs Bhojpuri general entertainment channel Mahuaa TV, 7 Sea is a Punjabi language news and infotainment channel owned by Mohali-based Panj Darya Telecasting.

ABC News is a Telugu news channel owned by Vijayawada-based Akhil Broadcasting while Voice of Nation is a Dehradun-based Hindi news channel owned by Northern India Holdings.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said that as per provisions of ‘Uplinking and Downlinking guidelines’, security clearance to the applicant company, its directors and key applicants is a pre-requisite for running TV channels.

“Accordingly, the Government has withdrawn permissions to four TV channels namely 7 SEA, Mahuaa News UP, ABC News and Voice of Nation, due to denial/withdrawal of security clearance by Government of India,” he said.

In a written reply to another question, Rathore said that the government has given permission to 36 TV channels to be uplinked from India and downlinked abroad under the uplinking guidelines
