MIB withdraws six TV channel licences in June; total cancellations at 195

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has cancelled six TV channel licences in June. With seven TV channel licences being given in the same month, the total number of permitted of TV channels grew by just 1 to 883, as of 30 June 2017.

The ministry has cancelled four uplinking and two downlinking licences in June. Bangla Entertainment’s uplinking licence under the name Aath has been cancelled as the company had procured a downlinking licence under the name Sony Aath in March this year.

Other companies whose licences have been cancelled include Fast Track Media and Communication’s Techno India Television, Heritage Tele Venture and Media’s 365 Din, Noida Software Technology Park Ltd’s (NSTPL) KBS World, Planet E-shop Holdings India’s Miraclenet, and Pragya Vision’s MahuaaPlus.
Fast Track Media and Communication’s Techno India Television was a news uplinking licence in Bengali. Heritage Tele Venture and Media’s 365 Din was Hindi uplinking news licence.
KBS World is the South Korean pubcaster Korean Broadcasting System’s international channel. It was being distributed by NSTPL in India.

Planet E-shop Holdings India’s Miraclenet licence was a non-news downlinking licence in multiple Indian languages. Pragya Vision’s MahuaaPlus was a non-news uplinking licence in Hindi.
