Ministry for the Development of North East Region (DoNER) has tied up with Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong to train youth from the region and develop managerial and entrepreneurial skills in them. The department has chosen tourism and hospitality as focus areas for skill development under the Programme for Developing Managerial Skill for Entrepreneurship.

As per the plan, about 60 youth from the North Eastern states will be selected and given special training on managerial skills in the current year. The department has already sanctioned around Rs 80 lakh for the sponsored programme to IIM. The programme will be conducted by Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, through its Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CEDNER).

The course will deal with developing managerial skills among the new generation of entrepreneurs of the region. The programme is supported under Capacity Building and Technical Assistance Plan Scheme administered by the Ministry of DoNER.

The Ministry and the North Eastern Council has collaborated with the Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, to offer a range of short-term skill development programmes encompassing the different areas of management, entrepreneurship in tourism, hospitality, among many others, from this financial year onwards. The Ministry also wants to involve the premier institutes in the North Eastern Region like IIM, IIT and Tata Institute of Social Sciences in the process of nurturing the human resources in the region.
