Around 6 lakh homes have been affected by the analogue cable switchoff, say cable operators

As analogue cable was switched off in Mumbai at midnight of November 1, cable operators united to demand a two months extension in the deadline so that they could install set-top boxes (STBs) in consumer homes.

Hundreds of cable operators came together on Thursday for the meeting called by Anil Parab, head of Mumbai Cable Operators Association (MCOA) and Shiv Sena Member of Legislative Council, to protest against the central government's stance of not extending the sunset date for first phase of digitisation.

MCOA is planning to move Supreme Court with its demand after the Bombay High Court refused to give any relief on Wednesday.
There is a fear among the cable operators of losing customers to direct-to-home (DTH) service providers.

Parab said that the the switch off in Mumbai has affected 6 lakh homes. "The broadcasters have switched off signals due to which 6 lakh homes have gone black," Parab told reporters after the meeting of cable operators.
