Sorry did not replay earlier but i have tried to foorat the hdd with FAT32/NTFS/EXT2 but it was no good i am thinking the lack of power in the 5V rail might be the cause i will make a 5V adaptor and try out the interface again.

I am thinking i the HDD gets the power from an external source the STB role will be reduced and hopefully should work.
Yes Internally I don't having this type of experience so Externally you must have accurate power for HDD this is alo Important,
So do it wisely and properly with help of some Hardware friend ok

i can imagine only two reasons....

1. Compatability -- check whether the hdd is compatible with linux environment. if it is not, then the stb cant record to it.

2. Power - if the hdd is linux compatible, then the power is the problem. the hdd is not getting enough power to run the drive

kindly check these and reply for further help

Ok so used a sata power to mini usb to power up the HDD which was all ready connect to the STB now i powered on the STB it seems to work fine now no tuk tuk....

After some more tests will get back the STB seems to be stuck trying to access the drive.
