India's Neo Sports network is entitled to a 7% increase in subscription fees for its channels from Reliance Big TV, a telecommunications tribunal has ruled.
The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate (TDSAT) bench, headed by chairman Justice SB Sinha, said the increase – in line with recommendations from the broadcast regulator TRAI - should also be backdated to 1 January 2009.
TDSAT also ruled that Big TV "must allow the petitioner to audit its system within two weeks" to calculate the average number of subscribers, after Neo Sports questioned the accuracy of the figures previously provided.
The Neo Cricket and Neo Sports channels are carried by the direct to home (DTH) platform now known as Reliance Digital TV, following an agreement reached in June 2008.
Neo Sport petitioned TDSAT to help resolve the issue on 31 March 2011, requesting Reliance paid fees of INR 6.3 crore and 18% interest, according to the news agency PTI.
