BENGALURU: There will be an explosion of TV news channels and web portals, with a sprinkling of print media in
Karnataka, ahead of the 2018 assembly polls.
The state already has a dozen Kannada TV news channels and three more will be launched in the next couple of months. With social media now a strong influence, traffic on the internet has increased, encouraging news portals to join the pro fusion of media.
"Mine will be the 14th Kannada TV news channel to be launched in Karnataka," said Kannada film lyricist Hemanth M Kammar, who is the MD of Focus TV. Journal ist Jyothi Irvathur, chief edi tor of the channel, said: "The objective will be to stop trial by media, and give unbiased news."
Businessman and Con gress member K C Nanjundi said he is investing in a news channel called TVI, to be launched on August 1. This will be followed by Andhra Pradesh-based Telugu channel TV5 coming up with its Kannada version. Regarding the logistics of starting a TV channel, Kammar said a functional studio and hiring of people would involve an investment of Rs 10 crore.
