With the digitization of television, pay-per-view subscribers would soon be able to watch blockbuster films on TV sets within a week of release, said Bollywood director Anil Sharma on Wednesday. He was in the city scouting for locations for his new film to be shot in Bhopal.
"Pay-per-view technology is set to revolutionize the movie business. Digitization of television broadcast would go a long way in curbing piracy," said Sharma whose film Gadar Ek Prem Katha (2001) holds a world record for 'most theatre tickets sold for any movie in India'. According to estimates, India has 146 million television homes, of which more than half are connected through cable.
"I see a considerable rise in revenue through pay-per-view. It is an idea and its time has come," said Sharma.
Suggesting that trends have changed and people rarely go to a cinema after first two week of a movie release, Sharma said, "Aajkal 11 din ka cinema ho gaya hai."
