Noted cinematographer and director Ashok Mehta died in Mumbai on August 15, 2012 from lung cancer. Friends, dear ones and actors who worked with this noted film personality paid their last respect to the departed soul. Actor Arjun Rampal carried the body of late Ashok Mehta. Arjun Rampal owes a lot to Ashok Mehta. He discovered the acting talent in Arjun when he was a model and cast him in his directional debut ‘Moksh’.
Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor who himself is unwell came to pay his last tribute to Ashok Mehta on a wheelchair. After hearing the sad news of Mr Mehta's death, Priyanka Chopra had tweeted: "RIP Ashok mehta.. Used to fondly call him chachu.. Indias Pioneer cinematographer..Such fond memories of him. Ur legacy lives on chachu!"
Manisha Koirala was also seen at the funeral along with Arjun Rampal. Manisha worked with the late cinematographer in her debut movie Saudagar. She was also Arjun Rampal’s heroine, in Moksh, the first feature film that Mr Mehta directed.
Choreographer turned filmmaker Farah Khan also paid her respect to Ashok Mehta. Soon after his death, Dia Mirza tweeted, "This man was a real Tiger! He would roar the word "Bachche"! Kind soul. Ace DOP. Ace Family man. Ace Friend. Ace Countryman. RIP Ashok Mehta."
Arjun Rampal's wife and model Mehr also pays her last respects to Ashok Mehta. Ashok Mehta was known for films like Bandit Queen, 36 Chowringhee Lane, Utsav, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak and MF Husain's Gaja Gamini.
Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, Shashi Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Manisha Koirala, Gulshan Grover, Farah Khan, Arshad Warsi, Raza Murad and Govind Nihalani were spotted at his funeral.
